If You Are Packing Yourself

  • Think about things that need to be packed together so they can be labeled according to the room they belong in.

  • Pack on a room by room basis so items can be properly paced in the correct room in your new home.

  • Only pack with unprinted newsprint paper so your possessions do not get soiled.

  • Wrap knickknacks and other small items in bright colored papers so they do not get lost.

  • Write a description of the contents on the top and front of each carton.

  • Use only clean cartons designed for moving as boxes from grocery stores may not be clean and may not hold the weight of the items you are putting in them.

  • Put heavy items in small boxes and light items in larger boxes.

  • Remove light bulbs before packing your lamps.

  • Pack a box of essentials (telephone, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, light bulbs, flashlight, pliers, screwdriver, paper plates, cups and plastic utensils) to be loaded on the truck last and unloaded into your new home first.

  • Before packing medicine and toiletry items, make sure their caps and lids have been tightly secured.
